Architectures of Flux 2025
At the threshold of structure and dissolution, these works explore the square not as a static form, but as a site of transformation. Across a series of twenty sketches and a larger singular composition (“Because this must be”), the artist investigates the geometry of space—where precision fractures into movement, and order gives way to dynamic instability. In 20 Ideas for a Square, each drawing acts as a proposition, a speculative blueprint testing the boundaries of form. Fine graphite lines intersect with deliberate strokes of red and blue ink, suggesting architectural scaffolding and a notational system for an evolving structure. Some iterations retain a sense ofsymmetry, while others unravel, their frameworks twisting, bending, or dissolving entirely. The repetition within the series hints at an ongoing process, where the square is not a fixed entity but an idea in perpetual flux. “Because This Must Be” expands on this concept, amplifying the tension between control and chaos. Here, a dense field of vertical lines emerges from a network of crisscrossing marks, resembling both an architectural construction and an optical vibration. The influence of Constructivism and Suprematism is evident in the rigor of the composition, yet the gestural, almost calligraphic quality of the mark-making aligns the work with the expressive lineage of Futurism and Lebbeus Woods’ speculative architectures. Together, these works form a meditation on transformation—where structure is never absolute, but always in motion, resisting containment, and opening itself to the infinite possibilities of space. -4o
